This is a fun movement-based song. I'm sharing it from a music & movement text/curriculum for non-specialists, written many years ago by moi.
The Leprechauns are Marching Now
Sung to the tune: The ants go marching one by one...
Ages: 3-8 years, also great for family classes where parents and multiple ages of children are present.
The leprechauns are marching now! Hurrah! Hurrah!
The leprechauns are marching now! Hurrah! Hurrah!
The leprechauns are marching now
Everyone STOPS! (everyone freezes suddenly into statue shapes)
to see just how the leprechauns are going to move now...(whisper this last line and wait for someone to call out a movement idea)
Repeat the song with the new movement word
eg..."rolling"
The leprechauns are rolling now, hurrah! Hurrah!
The leprechauns are rolling now! Hurrah! Hurrah!
The leprechauns are rolling now
Everyone STOPS! (everyone freezes suddenly into statue shapes)
to see just how the leprechauns are going to move now...
This is a great warm-up song and of course, the tune is familiar to most adults and catchy for children. It's a great way to celebrate St.Patrick's Day.
Enjoy!
